Robert Bainter, a United States native surfer thought his Apple Watch was gone for good when he rode the waves of the ocean.

Despite his best efforts to try and locate the device via the Find My iPhone feature, the results were disheartening. Bainter did what everyone else did at a time like that- he turned on the Lost Mode and bid farewell to his Apple Watch.

Then, six months later the surfer received a call from an individual who claimed to have found his watch. The item seemingly washed up ashore about three miles off the coast.

Surprisingly, the watch still worked, though the display was understandably hazy due to the saltwater intrusion. The finder acquired Bainter’s contact details via Apple’s Lost Mode.

While Bainter has had an Apple Watch replacement, he intends to keep his old watch as a memento for the experience. The story stands as a testament to the build quality of one of the most popular wearables of today.
