If there’s one thing that Samsung does consistently, it’s innovating their tech to the next level.

Galaxy Fold not working out? That’s fine. Samsung has several other display ideas on hand. Case in point- a continuous screen that’s not limited to the front of the device, but rather extends to the edges and even the back portion of the smartphone. This was included in the patent that the Korean-based company sent in for approval, as reported by Let’s Go Digital.

Perhaps the most obvious application for this tech will be for photographic reasons, but it’s not impossible to take advantage of the novel hardware. For instance, users can show live language translations as they speak, or could see themselves before taking the best possible selfie.

The upper screen can also act as a pager to show notifications, messages and alerts that you could read. When you want to activate the front screen, you can swipe and drag the message to up front and center to reply.

As always, we’ll just have to take a “wait and see” approach and wait for these patents to come to life.
