We’re not going to see fully functioning, foldable phones in the near future (with the exception of Huawei Mate X), but will Motorola have a go with their RAZR model.
With a patent that previously surfaced and a subsequent report by the Wall Street Journal, sources predict that Motorola will be releasing a new foldable Razr phone by August- something that the mobile phone manufacturer hasn’t done for years. This could be the ultimate litmus test on whether foldable smartphones are the future, or something that’s just a passing fad.
Motorola dominated the mobile phone landscape in one time, just before the iPhone boom in 2007. Then, the manufacturer lost to LG and Samsung in the Android phone marketplace and was bought by Google for $12.5 billion in 2012.
Will Motorola have what it takes to make consumers consider buying a foldable phone? Specs, price point and other tidbits aren’t available yet, but it’s just a few more months before we hear the next iteration of Motorola’s product.
