HTC to Release a Blockchain Smartphone in 2019

Taiwan-based phone manufacturer HTC intends to release a new-gen, blockchain mobile phone at the second half of the year.

The news was announced during the Taipei 101 forum and delivered via a keynote speech by Phil Chen, the Decentralized Chief Officer of HTC. According to Taiwan News, the blockchain smartphone is expected to hit the market in the latter part of 2019. Furthermore, the company hopes to expand its reach in the global blockchain sector by investing $50 million in funding that will develop the blockchain phone products, digital assets and cryptocurrency applications.

Apparently, this isn’t the first venture HTC, or any other smartphone company has had in regards to cryptocurrency phones. On 2018, the HTC Exodus was launched with lukewarm sales. Samsung is pairing a crypto payment app along with new phones. Several reports say that the Korean-based manufacturer intends to launch their own crypto token somewhere down the line.
